A huge thanks to viewers who support our dodgy vids - our training vids are available for everyone, but supporters receive a special supporters-only vid emailed every week. Support for a year or more and access older supporter vids too - lifetime supporters get over 100 vids immediately!
FOUR VIDS A MONTH FOR THE COST OF A COFFEE!
The easiest way? A one-off contribution via Paypal Me. When cleared, I email the previous supporter vids within 24 hours (if you opted for one year's support or more). Please use the Australian dollar, it minimizes currency fees.
6 MONTHS SUPPORT here (24 ride vids): AUD$25 (no previous vids)
1 YEAR SUPPORT here (48 ride vids): AUD$40 (and get a pile of previous vids too)
LIFETIME SUPPORT here AUD$100 (all supporter vids from Sept 2016 on!).
Links not working? Paypal.Me is for non-commercial transactions so Paypal won't charge a fee - but it's not available in all countries yet. If not, use the normal Paypal log in, choose personal payment if possible to avoid fees, and send your support to firstname.lastname@example.org
PREFER A SMALL REGULAR DONATION?
Patreon is for small but regular monthly support over time for Youtube creators. Click here to read more. Unfortunately they take 5% as their take then a further 5% for the currency conversion which is terrible compared to Paypal.Me - your credit card will also add a monthly charge. But use this option if small regular support works better for you.
WHY DID I GO FULL-TIME WITH THE VIDS?
The short story? I've had a part-time job the past 12 years working in a brain injury organization - it gave me lots of spare time to do free motorbike blogs, websites, videos and providing info on forums. But cuts to funding ended my job, and a dedicated group of Youtube viewers pushed me to go full time with the vids. In 2016 around 100 Youtube subscribers generously supported the vids to let me go full time, but it wasn't enough to survive on. I was using my savings to continue, then viewers suggested it was time to set a few videos aside just for supporters, which would encourage more to join in and share the load.
WHY DO I DO ALL THESE FREE TRAINING VIDS ANYWAY?
Over the years, a lot of guys have asked why I do all this free stuff - these enduro training vids, the trials training vids, the dirt and adventure rides I used to organize for locals, all the GPS files for adventure riders in Australia, the campaign for better Australian helmet standards etc. They kept saying I could make a lot of money but I just prefer to do stuff for free. So accepting support for the vids has not been easy, and it was only the persistent nagging of a few dedicated viewers in the USA that finally pushed me into it - you know who you are, you bastards lol!
WHY NOT RAISE SUPPORT OTHER WAYS - ADS, MERCHANDISE OR COACHING?
The past year I've appreciated all these suggestions viewers have offered, such as:
ADS & VIDEO MONETIZATION: Personally I hate ads, and don't want to subject others to them. And Youtube pay peanuts - the average vid would net $10 to $20. But it is still an option for the future.
SELLING MERCHANDISE: Many viewers said they would like to buy stickers, t-shirts, caps or DVDs of the training vids. Even if I let an outside agency handle this, it can still be quite time-consuming and the vids already take 60+ hours each week. It is a possibility but not at this point.
COACHING: Public liability is a terrible issue in Australian law, you must have expensive insurance to do training schools or bike tours, or you risk losing everything you own. Plus it would take so much time the vids would suffer.
SPONSORSHIP: Many suggest I get Beta or another manfacturer to sponsor the vids. At this stage I'd prefer to stay independent so I can give honest objective gumby reviews, but I might explore this later.
